Dedicated Stroke Unit

Stroke Unit at University of Louisville Hospital

Studies published by the American Heart Association conclude that dedicated stroke units provide improved patient outcomes by decreasing mortality rates, complications and length of stay while increasing the return-to-home frequency. University of Louisville Hospital’s Stroke Unit is staffed by a dedicated team of stroke neurologists and nurses and is equipped with the most advanced technology to care for stroke patients.

The $1.4 million unit offers stroke patients additional benefits to the current advanced care provided by the University Hospital Stroke team. Those include:

  • Quicker turn-around time from Emergency Department to a stroke bed
  • Specialized stroke-trained nursing staff
  • Twice-a-day physician to patient rounding
  • Families are permitted to stay overnight with patient

The combination of expert physicians and nurses and a dedicated stroke unit make University Hospital’s Stroke Center a leader in Kentucky and beyond.
