  • Unit-based preceptors and mentors to provide support.
  • Monthly workshops addressing educational topics of interest to the new graduate nurse, including topics such as Professional Role Development, Patient Care Initiatives, Leadership, Ethics, Communication.
  • Support sessions assist with the transition and growth for each Nurse Resident.
  • Advanced Practice Clinical Educators as excellent resources

At the conclusion of the residency program, the new graduate RN will:

  • Make the transition from novice beginner toward competent professional nurse in the patient care clinical setting at University Hospital.
  • Develop essential clinical judgment and decision-making skills related to patient care skill performance.
  • Provide clinical nursing leadership at the point of care.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice at the unit-level.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional clinical education to support increases in patient care outcomes, as life-long learners in the clinical setting.

The goal of our Nurse Residency Program is to develop new graduate nurses as they journey toward clinical excellence, during the first year post-graduation. These participants will be supported and prepared to meet the needs of patients in a Level I Trauma Center care setting in today’s challenging health care environment.
