More Professional Development Opportunities

Preceptor

Burn UnitBecause of the complex nature of nursing care at University Hospital and the Brown Cancer Center, we want our best nurses to teach and mentor our newest staff members. We provide a quarterly education day for preceptors to annually learn and refresh the principles of nurses as teachers.

Professional Certification

Professional nursing certification enhances the quality of patient care and contributes to the overall professionalism and dedication of our staff. That’s why we encourage and sponsor review courses for nurses to pursue professional certification. In 2010, we implemented a certification reimbursement policy and included certification in our Nursing Professional Development Program.

Tuition ReimbursementNurses who want to advance in their careers and take on hospital leadership roles benefit from our tuition reimbursement program. Whether the goal is to achieve a BSN or other advanced nursing degree from the University of Louisville School of Nursing or another accredited institution, we financially support their educational endeavors.

Management Training and Development

The hospital provides enhanced leadership education and development through our Nurse Leaders Onboard Program, Leadership Development Initiatives (LDI) and programs offered by the Nursing Executive Center of the Advisory Board Company.

Nurse Observation Program

Our job-shadow program invites experienced nurses and nursing students to spend all or part of a shift with a member of our caring and committed nursing staff. Participants observe the hospital’s latest technologies and treatments, and see our patient- and family-centered, team-oriented care firsthand.
