Diversity
Diversity of Work, Community & Profession
UofL Health Care nurses have a shared ownership in University of Louisville Hospital, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and the community we serve. We view and respect every person as a unique individual and value his or her culture, ethnicity, generational diversity and traditions.
In addition, our nurses voluntarily share their knowledge, care and compassion as they seek to make our local, regional and global communities healthier and stronger.
Our Diversity Committee has developed the following mission statement:
“UofL Health Care fosters an environment that respects and values diverse backgrounds, perspectives and abilities in order to provide exceptional care and service to our patients, families and community. We recognize and embrace diversity within our organization by our commitment to educate and develop culturally competent staff and leaders.”
Every day we see and treat individuals from a breathtaking variety of cultures, national origins, languages, races and lifestyles. To promote our awareness and cultural competency, a Diversity web site has been established on our internal web site and on our blog for the community.
The intent of the intranet and blog copy is to share vital information, and provide tools and resources. We also produce the “Cultural Competence Corner,” an official monthly hospital communication that features a different ethnic group each issue.
These are just a few of the ways we are embracing diversity throughout our healthcare practice. As a premier healthcare provider our goal is to provide culturally competent, compassionate care to all patients and their families.
