Nursing Research Champions

Who are Our Research Champions?

Research Champions are nurses at University of Louisville Hospital and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center who promote a climate of clinical inquiry on their nursing units.

They are enthusiastic cheerleaders, participants and facilitators of nursing research projects, evidence-based practice projects and quality-improvement projects.

They advise their colleagues related to ethical guidelines that support the human rights of research participants as well as ULH/BCC research policies.

Research Champions encourage colleagues to disseminate scholarly findings at local and professional nursing conferences and support ULH/JGBCC Nursing Research Day.

Research Champions work with their Clinical Managers to accomplish their work.

Research Champion Outcomes

Research Champions lead journal clubs on their units at least quarterly that are based upon a critique of a recent nursing research publication. They capture the essence of the discussion in unit minutes that are disseminated to all nurses on unit. Annually, they submit a research manuscript critique to the Nursing Newsletter.

Role of Clinical Manager

The clinical manager works with each Research Champion to schedule journal clubs, to encourage attendance at journal clubs, and to ensure that outcomes of journal clubs are disseminated to all nursing staff.
