Nursing

This is an exciting time to be a part of UofL Health Care Nursing, as we work toward obtaining Magnet™ designation.

UofL Health Care nurses positively impact people’s lives in countless ways. There is the personal touch — remembering a patient’s birthday. And there is the competent, professional touch – skillfully providing care to each and every patient, expertly making critical decisions and masterfully coordinating complex care.

UofL Health Care nurses are far more than caregivers:

  • We also are mentors and educators.
  • We are partners with other healthcare providers.
  • We are advocates for our patients and families.

The work of nursing requires the contributions of each of us every day to truly embody “Excellence Defined.”

“Nursing excellence is not only defined by clinical proficiency, although I think that’s how many of us have thought of it in the past. Nursing excellence is also defined by supporting the patient and family fully through the healing process — by being the ear that hears their story; the eyes that see any changes or clinical problems; the voice and hands that serve to comfort. As nurses, we are expected to fill many roles, but these are the most critical ones to our patients and families.”
