UofL Health Care is the umbrella organization for University of Louisville Hospital, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center and the University of Louisville Physicians.

As the primary adult teaching hospital for the University of Louisville Health Sciences Center, patients at University of Louisville Hospital receive the most up-to-date treatments in the region.

With 404 licensed beds, the acute-care tertiary hospital provides a full range of diagnostic, therapeutic, emergency and surgical services, including the region’s only Level I Trauma Center and adult Burn Unit. University of Louisville Hospital is also a Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) designated Primary Stroke Center.

The UofL Health Care Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive services to achieve optimal drug therapy outcomes for all patients, families and providers served by the institution.

To meet this goal, University of Louisville Hospital pharmacists provide decentralized clinical pharmacy services in all critical care and general medicine areas, including:

PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency Summary

The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Louisville Hospital is excited to offer a challenging educational opportunity of a one-year PGY2 Residency in Pharmacy Informatics. The residency program is focused on patient care activities designed to develop informatics expertise and clinical competence. Informatics Residency experiences include, but are not limited to:

  • Automated Dispensing Machines
  • Clinical Decision Support Systems
  • Clinical Documentation
  • Databases and Applications
  • Elective Experiences
  • Exchange Rotation
  • Infrastructure
  • Interfaces
  • Project Management
  • Research/Study Support
  • Robotics, Automation and Technology
  • Staff Education/Training

The resident may participate in patient safety, drug information, Pharmacy & Therapeutics functions, quality improvement programs, fiscal planning and program development. Instruction of pharmacy students, participation in staff conferences, policy development, project management and participation in multidisciplinary committees are provided.

Orientation: Orientation activities include orientation to University of Louisville Hospital, Pharmacy Department, drug distribution systems, staffing, computer systems, technology and clinical pharmacy services.

On-call: Required; the schedule varies.

Staffing: Requirements are based on prior University of Louisville Hospital staffing experience.

Travel / Interviews: Residents are eligible to attend one national meeting (either pharmacy or informatics related), as well as Great Lakes Pharmacy Residency Conference, Jefferson County Academy of Pharmacy, Kentucky Society of Health System Pharmacy, and Kentucky Bluegrass Health Information and Management Systems meetings. Interview leave is granted at the discretion of the residency director.

Vacation / Holidays: Residents receive a total of 10 days of vacation and are required to work at least two major holidays per year.
